Seychelles and UN-WTO will focus on the small island tourism development

During the World Tourism Conference 2010 in Kota Kinabalu, Mr. Nico Barito also held a meeting with Mr.Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of UN-World Tourism Organization. Mr. Barito has invited WTC to focus also on the small island tourism development and its connection to bio-diversity and climate change.
Mr. Barito, who is also the board member of Sea Level Rise Foundation expressed the concern of Secyhelles to the buoyancy, of small islands resort and the impact due to the over exploitation of its resources for tourism development.
Seychelles is happy, to share the success stories in the sustainable tourism transformation plan for small island development resort and way forward. For this, both parties has expressed intention to consider a World Tourism Forum on Small Island Responsible Tourism at Seychelles by early 2011 to promote a well-balanced and sustainable tourism industry that does not compromise to the losses of existing biodiversity and to protect the country's nature and cultural heritage.
